Fear, Worry, and Anxiety

What Umbrella are you standing under, GOD’s Love that brings peace and security or Fear that brings anxiety and worry?

Let’s unpack Philippians 4:4-9 together and find out how to handle the storm of fear, anxiety, and worry, with practical steps to walk in.

Step 1: V. 4 “4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice.”

You might be thinking…

How can I rejoice when I see so many things that are not right, and my thoughts are swirling around in my head endlessly! It feels like this situation so out of control…

Ask yourself:

What do I believe about this situation?

Where am I in it?

Where is GOD?

Now let’s take a look at the next verse and see how your responses to the questions above line up…

Step 2: V, 5 “5Let your reasonableness[a] be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand”

So, I can choose to see the situation for what it is: bigger than me, outside of my control, and place it where it belongs in GOD’s Hands (not mine- I am in His hands). I can choose to rejoice and trust that GOD is “at hand to get me through it!”

Why? Because GOD calls us to stand on Truth “Go up” and grab HIS promise and “out” with false belief ( 2 Cor. 5:10).

How did you do? Did your beliefs and choices line up?

REMEMBER:

Beliefs-Thoughts-Feelings-Behavior: What I believe, is what I’ll think, it’s what I’ll feel: produces positive or negative emotions. It’s how I’ll behave...

So, choose to believe, “GOD is at Hand and Rejoice!!” This takes it off of you and places it on the ONE who is in control and holding you up with HIS Everlasting Love (Jeremiah 31:3, 2nd Tim 1:7).

GOD’s GOT THIS!! (Lyrics: “You Got This” by Love And The Outcome)

“I know it's not a lot, know it's not a lot I give You all I got, give You all I got I know it's true, I can count on You

I don't know the way But You got this Give me the faith That You got this Even today You got this I know that I know that I know that You got this”

Step 3: “V.6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

Now that you have decided to trust and take GOD at HIS Word, let's move forward in the next step:

Prayer: pray specifically- “GOD I feel…

Supplication: GOD I need….

Thanksgiving: Thank you...

Thank you, LORD, for loving me, providing for all of my needs, and showing me what to do, I choose to follow YOU, in JESUS name! (Philp 4:19, Prov 3:5-6, Rom 8:28-29, James 1:5-8)

Remember: when you give GOD thanks you are standing firm in faith, trusting the ONE who loves you Perfectly (1 John 4:18) – this will keep your heart in the right place centered on GOD, not on self ( James 1:5-8).

Step 4: V.7 “7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Now “go up” and grab hold of this promise and rest in GOD “out” without worry.

Step 5: V. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Here’s Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in action Biblically…

Think on these things: whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, worthy of praise…

Journal your thoughts: be mindful of what you are thinking...

Is it true? Meaning, does it line up with Scripture?

Example: I am so alone in this .. I’ll never get through this...

Truth or a lie?

Philippians 4:13 New King James Version (NKJV)

13 I can do all things through [a]Christ, who strengthens me.

1 Corinthians 10:13 English Standard Version (ESV)

13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Now process through each one truth, honorable, just, etc.. and set your mind on GOD's way, not your way as you surrender your heart to HIM.

The last step V.9, "What you have learned[b] and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”

PRACTICE! AND THE GOD OF PEACE WILL BE WITH YOU!!

GO “UP” AND GRAB HOLD OF THIS PROMISE AND “OUT” WITH THE FEAR!
